Start with Stead Gold

The favourite TALLAWAH (right) is driven out by champion jockey Brian Harding to win the 10th race for the Flossie McNeil Memorial Cup over 1200 metres by a short head from the fast-finishing FIRE D TRAINER (Oral Bennet) at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. With the Pick-9 offering a whopping carryover of $3.7 million at Caymanas Park tomorrow, a payout in excess of $5.5 million looks a real possibility.

Upsets by KAZ HO ME at 20-1 in the eighth race and BLACK RIVER at 13-1 in the fifth ensured that the Pick-9 survived for a sixth consecutive raceday.

It will embrace races four to 12 on the card, while provision has been made for two Super-6s on the Supreme Ventures-sponsored 12-race programme. We look at the second Super-6 from race seven through to race 12.

This gets under way with the Pick 3 'Back Up' Plaque to be contested by 11 starters over 1600 metres.

The horses to note are STEAD GOLD, SIXTH SENSE, VELOCITY, NAVAJOJOE and the lightly-raced LADY JUSTICE who returns from an 11-month absence in a bid for the hat-trick.

Still, the one best equipped to pull it off is STEAD GOLD, who, though failing to win for some time, has been a model of consistency. The five-year-old gelding was a fast-finishing fourth to INCOMMUNICADO over 1200 metres on November 11 and prior to that, finished second to both ANOTHER RANKING and DORALDO over 1200 metres and 1700 metres respectively. With title-chasing jockey Wesley Henry now taking the ride, STEAD GOLD should win from LADY JUSTICE and SIXTH SENSE who will be better for the two recent pipeopeners. Recent winner SATISFIER, now dropped in class, is confidently expected to rebound in the eighth race over 1300 metres, despite the presence of the consistent SIR KHAN and BABY RENEE. SATISFIER (Henry up) beat a good field over 1400 metres on a $390,00 tag as recent as November 4 and despite failing to impress in his subsequent race behind BANJUHAR, apparently has the beating of his 10 opponents on a $270,000 tag.

Three-cornered tussle

Race nine over 1500 metres for three-year-olds should come down to a three-cornered tussle involving MARKET DAZZLE, AITCHEMESBEAGLE and CRAYONS TO PERFUME who had no luck in running behind SHIVOYNE over 1300 metres last time out.

While I expect it to be close among the three, CRAYONS TO PERFURME is preferred to Trevor Simpson's mount AITCHEMESBEADLE, who was a fast-finishing second to SHIVOYNE in the same race. Briefly, PYRITE TONIGHT (working very well) gets the nod over BULLET TRAIN and the improving FREE FALL in the 10th over the straight, while it should be STRONG HOPE over stable-companions RUN ALDEENO and MARK TO MARKET in the $2.5 million Pick 3 Super Challenge Trophy race over 1400 metres, and NASATOL in the closing race over the straight.
