Quite an AWG spread
published: Friday | November 24, 2006

On a chilly Saturday night in Stony Hill, the American Women's Group (AWG) hosted a fine wine and cheese party.

The event featured wines and foods from Italy, France and the good old USA. Each country had a separate area allowing guests to 'travel' between countries and experience the difference. The AWG laid out quite a spread for those who made the trip to the Montgomery Road residence that hosted the affair.

The Italian quarter, named Bella Luna, introduced guests to delights such as Salame Di Cioccolato (Chocolate Salami) and Prosciuttoe E Melone (ham and melon). The French section, Le Petit Bistro, was adorned with scenes of the Eiffel Tower and all things from the European land. From the culinary aspect, of course, there had to be pâté along with other exotic selections such as Quiche Lorraine (a classic egg dish). Meanwhile, the Americans went for the New Orleans flavour with their All That Jazz area. Juicy BBQ chicken wings and some Monterrey Jack Cheese were among their delicious offerings.

Apart from the fine wines that were the drink of choice, guests also had the choice of exquisite champagne, juices and the never-fail cadre of beers.

The big splash was apt for an organisation celebrating its 20th year. The ladies who, despite the name of the organisation, hail from 22 countries, use these activities to fund their various social outreach programmes.

Guests included Stuart and YvonneFisher, Anna Kaiser and Willie Lampert, Jackie Dorsey, Leslie Wan and Allison Peart.
