Gunners favoured to whip Hamburg
published: Tuesday | November 21, 2006

HENRY

LONDON (AP):

A win for Arsenal won't guarantee the Gunners a spot in the second round of the Champions League. It won't hurt, though.

Arsenal, which earned only one point from their last two matches against Group G leaders, CSKA Moscow, face Hamburg today.

"I think we are under serious pressure to deliver and I think we will," Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, said. "We know what we have to do."

CSKA lead the group with eight points, followed by Arsenal and FC Porto with seven each and Hamburg with zero.

The Russian team can clinch a spot in the second round with a win over FC Porto, today. In the last set of matches on December 6, Arsenal visit Porto and Hamburg host CSKA.

Arsenal striker, Thierry Henry, did not start against Newcastle, on Saturday, in the English Premier League, but he came on as a substitute and scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw with a free kick.

"I am worried about burnout and I'll need to protect Thierry when it is needed," Wenger said.

Arsenal's form at the Emirates Stadium is also worrying. The match against Newcastle was the team's fourth league draw at home this season. The Gunners also drew 0-0 with CSKA in the Champions League, on October 17.

"We have not to put too much pressure on ourselves," Wenger said. "But we have to be more dynamic than what we produced against Newcastle in the first half, because that was not our usual way and not how we want to play football."

The Gunners are in fourth place in the English league - 12 points behind leaders, Manchester United.

Arsenal will be without defender William Gallas, who bruised his left thigh in training yesterday. Wenger said Gallas would be out for "a few weeks".
