Alumni association hosts 'Diabetes and Folklore'

The Jamaica Fulbright-Humphrey Alumni Association (JFHAA) will host Dr. Dalip Ragoobirsingh as the guest speaker at a seminar 'Diabetes and Folklore' at the Physiology Lecture Theatre, Basic Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies today at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event is the first in the Fulbright-Humphrey Alumni Speaker Series.

Members of the Diabetes Association of Jamaica will also be on site to do free diabetes, eye and blood pressure screening from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Dr. Dalip Ragoobirsingh is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and consultant to the University of the West Indies Diabetes Outreach Project.

Education Curriculum

Most recently, he was a Fulbright Scholar attached to the Non-communicable Diseases Unit of the Pan American Health Organization headquarters in Washington, United States, where he developed a Diabetes Education Curriculum for Caribbean Health Care Professionals.

He is a member of several distinguished professional societies and the author of several publications on the metabolic and molecular aspects of diabetes.

Dr. Ragoobirsingh is also chairman of the activities committee of the JFHAA.

The JFHAA is an association of professionals who have been beneficiaries of Fulbright and Humphrey grants, scholarships and fellowships administered by the U.S. Department of State.
