Flash flood watch on
published: Tuesday | November 21, 2006

A flash flood warning was put into effect for the island yesterday as heavy rains continued to pelt several parishes.

According to the Meteoro-logical Service at the Norman Manley International Airport, the weather conditions, expected to continue throughout today, are due to a frontal system over the central and western Caribbean, including Jamaica.

"This system is expected to continue influencing weather conditions over Jamaica during the next 48 to 72 hours," the Met Service said. "Consequently widespread moderate to heavy showers with scattered thunder-storms are expected throughout the period."

Temperatures are expected to fall two to three degrees below normal and wind speeds, especially over inshore and offshore areas of the north and west coasts, are also expected to increase significantly.
