BangShowbiz:

The happy couple wed on Saturday in front of more than 150 star-studded guests at the Odescalchi Castle, in Lake Bracciano, Italy.

Before the Scientology ceremony kicked off, the venue was besieged by thousands of fans and the world's media, desperate to catch a glimpse of Tom, 44, and Katie, 27.

Guests included Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony, Jada Pinkett Smith and her actor spouse Will, Jim Carrey and his girlfriend Jenny McCarthy, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and Brooke Shields.

Victoria's football superstar husband David was due to attend but had to miss the nuptials because his team, Real Madrid, had a game on Saturday evening.

He did, however, go to the pre-wedding party held in Rome on Friday night with Victoria.

Tom's close friend David Miscavige, the head of the Church of Scientology, was best man, Katie's sister Nancy Blaylock was the matron of honour, while the Batman Begins actress was given away by her father Martin.

What they wore

As predicted, Katie wore an off-the-shoulder Armani wedding gown with an ivory silk train complete with Swarovski crystals, while Tom said "I do" in a navy blue tuxedo also designed by Giorgio Armani, who provided outfits for the entire wedding party.

The rings the pair exchanged were designed by Cartier and made from white gold adorned with diamonds.

The ceremony was performed by a Scientology minister and it was initially believed the marriage wouldn't be legal after the Mayor of Bracciano said the couple needed to have a civil ceremony in the town centre.

However, representatives for Tom and Katie insisted the nuptials were legal because the pair had made their wedding "official" in the United States before leaving for Italy.

After the service was complete, guests were treated to cocktails, Italian hors d'oeuvres then a lavish multi-course meal, while blind Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli provided the entertainment.

The newlyweds' cake was five-tiered, made of white chocolate and decorated with marzipan roses and white chocolate chips.
