Lord Morris celebrates!
published: Sunday | November 5, 2006

Tesi Johnson, Gleaner Writer

Left: Patrick Lynch (left) and Lord Morris have a good laugh, at Lord Morris' reception.

The Starlight Terrace, at Terra Nova Hotel was filled with dignitaries and diplomats on Wednesday evening as they celebrated with the Hon. Lord William Morris of Handsworth, and his partner Eileen, his appointment to the House of Lords.

Jamaican-born Lord Morris, Britain's first black trade union general secretary, and arguably one of that country's most influential black men, was granted life peerage in the House of Lords, in April. In June, he was officially appointed and gazetted Baron Morris of Handsworth. That has a nice ring to it!

Among the dignitaries who celebrated with Lord Bill and Eileen were the Hon. Kenneth Hall and his wife, Rheima Golding-Hall; Hopeton Caven; Drs. Dhiru and Laura Tanna; Ambassador Volker Schlegel; Ryland Campbell; Blossom O'Meally-Nelson; Kent and Virginia Lacroix; Ambassador Maxine Roberts; Earl Jarrett; Lascelles Perry; Dorothy Pine-McClarty; Thyra and Derrick Heaven; George Fatta; Norma Clark; Dep. British High Commissioner Paul Nicolopulo and his wife, Kareen; Lester Spaulding, and Cliff Hughes.
