The Editor, Sir:
The Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica and president of the People's National Party, is to be given the same courtesies and respect that her office entitles her. She is the woman in charge of Jamaica.
Due to the fact that many of our men in Jamaica abuse their women, this aggressive, egoistic and chauvinistic behaviour is being put on show in our Parliament. It just goes to show why so few of our women seek to serve the public, because fear and intimidation seem to be the order of the day, which is communicated even in their body language.
I have seen the leadership of the Most Hon. Hugh Lawson Shearer, Michael 'Joshua' Manley, Edward Phillip Seaga and Percival 'P.J.' Patterson. I have never seen dis-respect shown to these men, no matter how serious the debacle might be.
Mr. Editor, please permit me to address Mr. Golding in this statement:
Mr. Bruce Golding: The women of Jamaica lift their voices loud and clear today to you and your disciples that you are to debate, converse, talk, quarrel, accuse, oppose as much as your job requires, but treat the lady in charge of Jamaica with the same courtesies you show your wife, daughter, helper, mother, female members of your JLP. We are watching you and we will not sit by and allow any more show of discourtesies to our lady Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller.
I am, etc.,
