JGRA launches Advance prepaid card
published: Sunday | November 5, 2006

The Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA) has launched a new prepaid payment card to eliminate the use of cash at service stations operated by its members, while offering savings to motorists.

Not the first of its kind in the country, the unique feature of this card, is the fact that it can be used at all brands of service stations islandwide. The launch of the card took place at the Alhambra Inn, in St. Andrew, on Wednesday.

Developed by Manufacturers Credit and Information Services Limited (MCIS) in collaboration with the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) and the JGRA, 'Advance card' will not only allow motorists to purchase fuel at a discounted price of .5 per cent, but non-fuel purchases such as tyres, will attract up to a 15 per cent discount.

Advance card will reduce the service charges associated with debit and credit card usage, while enabling companies and individuals to better manage fuel expenses.

Benefits of Advance card

No need to use cash at service stations.

Consumers can monitor purchases online.

Cards are swiped at service stations to authorise purchases.

The card can be used at over 90 per cent of service stations.

Three vehicles can be signed to each card.

If the card is lost, the customers 'credit' is safe.

How to sign up

Complete an application form at any JNBS branch or Money Shop as well as JGRA service stations. Pay a one-time registration fee of $200 and a service charge of $50 monthly. Use of the card can begin within 24 hours of signing up. The vehicle registration number is required when making all purchases.

How to top up the card

The Advance card can be topped up at any JNBS branch or Money Shop. A minimum of $350 is required to be on the card. While there is no limit as to how much can be placed on the card, it is recommended that customers place no more than $18,000 on the card.

Customers can contact MCIS at 663-MCIS (6247) for 24 hour assistance.
