New look for motor vehicle registration certificate

The Tax Administration through its Inland Revenue Department is introducing an Automated Motor Vehicle System (AMVS) Online, a main feature of which is a computer generated Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate (MVRC). Motorists will now benefit from getting a printed MVRC which will eliminate transcription errors.

The new system will also result in a reduction in the time taken to process motor vehicle registrations at the Collectorates, and the time taken to process a Motor Vehicle Title application as the average turnaround time for the processing of Motor Vehicle Titles is now four (4) weeks - down from an average of 12

Persons may experience delays when using the system for the first time as ALL motor vehicle documents have to be checked prior to proceeding to the Cashiers. Persons in possession of their Motor Vehicle Titles are encouraged to take it with them, as it will aid in reducing the transaction time. Motor vehicle owners who have not collected their Titles are asked to do so.

The Automated Motor Vehicle System is now in operation at the May Pen, Spanish Town, Constant Spring Revenue Service centres as well as at the Old Harbour, Chapleton, Linstead, Christiana, Lionel Town, Santa Cruz, Black River, Cross Roads, Port Maria and Annotto Bay and King Street collectorates. The remaining collectorates are scheduled to come online by year end.

For additional information and details of the Automated Motor Vehicle System (AMVS) call 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) or visit the website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm for details.
