It has come to the attention of the Gleaner Company Limited that fliers are being circulated by unknown persons in the Portmore area which purport to set out the text from an article entitled 'Meet Keith Hinds, Maybe Your First Mayor of Portmore,' written by Lloyd Williams, senior assistant editor and which was originally published on Page A6 of The Gleaner dated June 3, 2003. the article was subsequently posted on one of our websites, www.jamaicaelections.com. We wish to advise the public that the text of the article reproduced in the fliers, and the site banner headed "Jamaica Local Election 2003" was copied from our website www.jamaicaelections.com, reproduced and printed without our permission and knowledge and that these unscrupulous persons have 'doctored' and edited the original text of the article to introduce content that was not a part of the original published version.
The Gleaner Company, its subsidiaries, affiliates and Mr. Lloyd Williams, condemns this unscrupulous act and disassociates ourselves from all content that was not a part of the original piece. we would invite the public and indeed all persons who have become the recipients of these fliers to visit our website at www.jamaicaelections.com and our archive section at www.jamaicagleaner.com to read the original text of the article. We take this opportunity to advise those who are part and parcel of this cowardly act that they are in breach of the Gleaner Company Limited's copyright and that we will take all legal measures necessary to uncover those responsible and defend our rights.
