The Editor, Sir:I am convinced that the Registrar General's Department (RGD) exists to frustrate rather than help the average Jamaican get on with his/her life.
I applied online for my new birth certificate in June and went into the Trevennion Park Road office to pay on June 22. I was told that it would take six weeks to be processed and I would, therefore, receive it in August. That was bad enough. It is now October 13 and I still haven't received my certificate.
I got a call from them on July 6, advising me that there was an error with the entry number. I subsequently submitted the entry number, at which time I was assured that it would be speedily processed. I returned to the Kingston office on August 8 and was reassured that since they had received the number, I would soon receive the document.
I called again on September 18, and was told that it had been found and would soon be printed and delivered to me. I still have not seen any sign of the document. This is not my idea of customer service! I am extremely frustrated and fed up with this organisation's poor performance.
I am, etc.,
KAREN HENRY
