Alnaskra to upstage juvenile peers

SIMPLEXITY, one of two for apprentice Carlton Malcolm, wins at odds of 15-1 over the straight five course at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, October 4. She was trained by Robert Darby Sr.

The native bred juveniles hold hold centre stage at Caymanas Park today when they contest race No. 1 in the $8.5 million Supreme Ventures Series of three for the 'Cash Pot Only for Me' Trophy (Grade III) over 1200 metres with a total purse of $2 million.

Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) has donated $5.65 million to purses, including a million-dollar bonus to the owner of the horse capable of winning all three races in the series.

The two remaining races are the $2.5 million Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy over 1400 metres on Saturday, November 25 and the $3 million Supreme Ventures Jamaica 2-Y-O Stakes over 1600 metres on Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26.

Today's well supported 11-race programme also features the None Such Sprint Trophy (graded stakes) over 1200 metres, to be contested by six starters.

In the Supreme Ventures feature, trainer Richard Azan holds a strong hand with his recent Dewhurst Stakes winner TOOT DI HOOT and the unbeaten ALNASKRA, who made a smashing debut in the round five Stewards' Cup on September 27.

While the two stable companions should have a battle royal for favouritism in the eight-horse field, others such as the unbeaten MUCHO GUSTO and STRONG HOPE should come in for a lot of support. The race will definitely be decided among this quartet.

TOOT DI HOOT, to again be ridden by Richie Mitchell, is by far the most experienced in the field, having won his last three races from five starts, slamming RHYMAT by 6-1/2 lengths in the Dewhurst Stakes over 1300 metres recently.

If that wasn't enough, he has worked brilliantly alongside stable companion ALNASKRA in preparation for this race, both finishing heads on in a five furlong gallop out of the straight last Saturday, this in a brisk 59.3 behind a half-mile split of 46.0.

Battle royal

It should, therefore, be a battle royal between TOOT DI HOOT and ALNASKRA who won the Stewards' Cup in the smart time of 1:00.0 behind splits of 23.1, 46.4 under title-chasing jockey Wesley Henry.

Significantly, ALNASKRA beat SMOOTH DUDE by 6-1/2 lengths that day and the runner-up paid tribute to the form with a fighting victory in the Lester Saunders Memorial Trophy over 1400 metres last Saturday.

It is interesting to note that ALNASKRA has been administered Lasix for this race and now better for that initial experience, is tipped to make it two in a row with Henry again in the saddle. The son of Al's River Cat - Lil Naskra has good speed and will more than likely set off in front.

Other firm fancies on the card are the now lightly weighted LIL'COUNTRY BOY to make all in the None Such Sprint, recently disqualified winner PRINCE OF LAW in the second race, PASSA PASSA in the 5th, CELEBRATION TIME to stave off PLEASURE CRUISE in the 8th and IT'S IN THE GLOVE in the ninth.
