Gerald Reid is carried by passers-by to a car that sped him to the hospital after a motor vehicle accident in the Bog Walk gorge yesterday.

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

Two persons were hospitalised in serious condition yesterday following a vehicular accident along the Bog Walk gorge, in St Catherine.

Those hospitalised have been identified as the driver, Gerald Reid of Linstead, St. Catherine, and 28-year-old Lisa Douglas of a Bog Walk address.

Reports are that about 3:40 p.m, a Toyota Corolla motor car being operated as a taxi and driven by Reid was proceeding towards Bog Walk when, upon reaching the section of the road known as Rebis corner, he attempted to overtake a Leyland and an International truck.

The right side of the motor car collided with the left front section of the International truck, causing the car to overturn, hitting the Leyland truck in the process and severely injuring Reid and Douglas. They were both lifted from the wreckage and taken to the Spanish Town Hospital.

Mixed views

Several onlookers who converged on the scene gave mixed views, arguing that both trucks were speeding and hit the car, while others claimed it was the car that was speeding.

When The Gleaner news team visited the scene, the International truck was seen on the right side of the road and the car on the left, while the Leyland truck was at the rear of the car.

Corporal Garfeild Byfield of the Bog Walk Police Traffic Department is investigating the matter.
