Where is the $31 million coming from?
published: Saturday | October 14, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

I have a question. Trafigura donated $31 million dollars to the PNP. This seems to be without doubt. There also is without doubt, the Prime Minister has stated that the money shall be given back. All this is agreed. But where is the $31 million to give back coming from?

Presumably, the money was already spent on the conference. Does the Prime Minister intend to ask the T-shirt makers, the caterers, the Arena, et al to give the money back. I don't think so. So where is the $31 million to give back going to come from? Please tell me and the country it won't be from the pockets of the police officers, or nurses, or teachers and all the rest of Government workers lobbying for their much- needed and deserved wage increases.

It is my understanding that any money that the Government has to spend is entrusted to the government by the people of Jamaica. It belongs to the people. Is it coming from the PNP treasury? If so cashy, why take more from Trafigura? Didn't anyone ask where all this cash was coming from?

Does Mr. Campbell who received the money have $31 million to give back. How does a Government Minister earn so much?

I am, etc.,

Curiously Worried
