LETTER OF THE DAY: A call for PALP - Peace and Love in Parliament
published: Saturday | October 14, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am among those eligible to vote; however, I am very confused as to those WHO are supposed to be leading and WHERE I am being led. It is totally disgusting to watch the juvenile behaviour displayed in Parliament by those who are deemed as leaders and educators. A similar programme to PALS needs to be instituted in as well as out of Parliament as PALP - Peace And Love in Parliament. These parliamentarians need a course in anger management. There is always verbal jousting between the two parties and what is evident is that everyone wants to be a part of the power by whatever means necessary, yet there is no reasonable solution to the way forward.

I remember one reader in primary school that had three monkeys, each covering the eyes - 'see no evil', the ears - 'hear no evil', and the lips - 'speak no evil.' Many of us can attest to the fact that politics is not as smooth sailing as some believe, especially when the desire for power and fame becomes irrepressible. How can we not see, hear and speak about the evil that permeates the society.

Another general election is imminent and I hope and pray that we will not see hear or speak of anymore tribal war in the name of votes, power or fame. Politicians and/or Government, take into consideration the cry of the poor, the indigent and civil servants, and try to find some solution to alleviate the cries. I am among those who suffer while your pockets increase in size and wonder. Get off your swashbuckling horses and put people first. Better can be done so let it be done.

I am, etc.,
