Rapist gets 25 years
published: Saturday | October 14, 2006

One of the 10 men who abducted a woman while she was walking on Oxford Road, Kingston 5, at night, and then took her miles away to Grants Pen, Kingston 8 where they all raped her, has been jailed for 25 years.

Ricardo Wright, 23, tiler, of Shortwood Lane, St. Andrew, was pointed out shortly after, as one of the men who committed the acts. He was arrested and charged.

Sentenced to 25 years

Chief Justice Lensley Wolfe found Wright guilty of charges of illegal possession of firearm, abduction and rape and sentenced him yesterday to a total of 25 years' imprisonment.

The complainant, who is a teacher, testified in the Gun Court that in May 2004 she was walking in the company of two male friends on Oxford Road. A car drove up and some men pulled her into the vehicle. They covered her face and took her to an area which later turned out to be Grants Pen.

Wright and nine other men raped her and ordered her to perform numerous sexual acts. After her ordeal, Wright went outside and asked a motorcyclist to take her away from the area.

She reported her ordeal to the police who took her to Grants Pen where the incident took place. She saw Wright at the house and pointed him out as one of the men who abducted and raped her at gunpoint.

In his defence, Wright denied committing the offence. He said he lived at the house, but did not know anything about the incident.
