C&W, Kings in St James netball final
published: Saturday | September 2, 2006

Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

The coveted Hart & Son Trophy and a $30,000 winners' purse will be at stake tomorrow afternoon when Cable & Wireless and the red-hot Kings square off in the final of 2006 St. James Netball Association Senior Netball League at the Montego Bay Boys Club Courts, starting at 5:00 p.m.

Prior to the final, which promises to be an epic affair, beaten semi-finalists Angels 'A' will do battle with the ever-improving Sting in the third place play-off, starting at 4:00 p.m. The winners will pocket $10,000. The beaten finalists will receive $15,000.

Based on their semi-final showings, a keen showdown is anticipated between Cable & Wireless, the beaten mid-season finalist, and the enterprising Kings.

In their semi-final clash against Sting, Cable & Wireless scored a hard-fought 39-37 victory while the red-hot Kings outscored mid-season champions Angels 'A' 38-36.

With just one defeat in eight games - their mid-season final loss to Kings 'A', Cable & Wireless should start favourites to lift the championship trophy. However, based on their consistency, the Anita Robinson-coached Kings, with six wins and two draws in their eight games, cannot be slighted.

In their bid for the title, the Cable & Wireless aggregation should be well served by their experienced line-up, which includes the likes of Suzette Virgo, Tashieka Howell and top goal-shooter Lisa Blair; while Kings should pack a solid punch through the likes of Lisa Myrie, Leonie Lawrence and Shamela Lewis.
