Brown looking for new attitude
published: Saturday | September 2, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Brown

The addition of crafty flank-man Jamal Campbell-Ryce will bolster the Reggae Boyz squad which leaves the island today ahead of Monday's friendly international against Canada.

The unavailability of key players due to injury and club commitments, Luton Shelton, Claude Davis, Ricardo Fuller, Donovan Ricketts and captain Ricardo Gardener to name a few, has left a Reggae Boyz team, which ultimately aims to progress in the FIFA international rankings, a bit short on international experience headed into the fixture.

International experience

In fact Jermaine Taylor, Khari Stephenson, Teofore Bennett, Garfield Reid and Damion Stewart are the only players that can boast of any significant experience at the international level. In light of that fact interim technical director Carl Brown believes that the team's major objective for the fixture will be getting the players to develop the right attitude.

"Right now our goal is to improve the attitude of the players, I like what I have seen so far, but they need to take it into the game," the coach said.

Good attitude

"For me a good result will be to see good attitude on the field from the players, for some people it's all about beating Canada 3-0. But the fact is that our attitude needs to change at the international level," he said.

However, the Canadians even with the addition of Tottenham's Paul Stalteri and a few others may be a bit green themselves, a fact which coach Brown has recognised.

"The Canadians are also building as well, I don't think that they have got all their players back from Europe, either and they should also be fielding home-grown players."

In their last encounter on September 2, 1999 in Toronto, Canada won the friendly 1-0.
