WESTERN BUREAU:

After being beaten and apparently arrested without cause, resident of Paradise Acres in St. James, Cedric 'Goosey' Thorpe, is calling for legal and financial redress from the authorities.

According to Mr. Thorpe, about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, he was home with his two daughters when members of the St. James police banged on his door demanding a search of the premises.

Believing that they were out to kill him, Mr. Thorpe said he fled the premises but was caught about three chains away and dragged by his locks to a waiting vehicle.

"Dem start have attitude pon me so me run out of the house and one of them run out of the house wid me and ketch me, kick me dung, the man start kick me inna me belly, kick me inna me head and draw me," he said.

Men tried to help

A well-known person in the community, Mr. Thorpe said several men came to his aid but that they, too, were handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle.

Bleeding from bruises on his buttocks, shoulders and knees, Mr. Thorpe said he had to endure interrogation without medical aid.

Claiming this was the second time he had been roughed up by the police, after being shot several times at his home by police in March 2004, Mr. Thorpe said he has had enough and something must be done.

"Nobody has been charged all now," he said. "The man dem just want to kill me even though only God he knows why."
