The issue of freedom

THE EDITOR, Sir:
As we look forward to the celebration of Emancipation and Independence, as Jamaicans I strongly believe that we must take time to ponder the issue of freedom. I firmly believe that we have lost the sense of freedom if we lack the will to make moral choices and support models who will speak out against the ills of society. The record number of killings is a testimony that people are still in chains and they still yearn for the intervention of the Garveys of our time to make a radical difference.
Theme songs
Interestingly, this year's Gospel and popular song winners did us a favour by giving us theme songs that can be used to assist leaders from church to state with the job of injecting wholesome thoughts into starved, trapped, and interrupted minds.
I believe that the minds that are free must show their unwavering support to unleash the chains off those who have remained captive because of their social class, gender, geographical location, level of socialisation, chronological age or any other factor that causes them to be marginalised or less poised to achieve or enjoy freedom.
I am, etc.,
