Fun village for kids at Denbigh
published: Thursday | August 3, 2006

Organisers of the Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show have created a children's fun zone, which will provide wholesome entertainment for the approximately 22,000 youngsters expected to attend the three-day show this year.

Dubbed the 'Honey Bun Fun Village', the fun zone will cater to young persons two to 18 years old, and will feature a stage show area, a picnic centre, and a host of games and activities designed to occupy young visitors on each day of the show.

Barrington Bucknor, coordinator of the fun zone, said the three-acre Honey Bun Fun Village represented an upgrading and restructuring of the traditional Kiddies Zoo. He added that the village was an option for children who were often not catered for at the annual event.

Away from hustle and bustle

"Normally, children go to Denbigh and they walk around with their parents and go where the parents want to go," Mr. Bucknor said. "This year, we have taken the kids away from the hustle and bustle and we have given them a focused area where they can learn more about agriculture, and values and attitudes in a controlled environment, while having fun."

The coordinator noted that visitors to the area could anticipate prizes and daily giveaways, as well as special attractions such as bounce-abouts, rock-climbing, and a mechanical bull, all courtesy of Honey Bun, the major sponsor for the village. Young patrons can also look forward to other exciting activities such as go-cart racing, donkey and cart rides, and Denbigh's famous water wheel.

Mr. Bucknor noted that the aim of the Honey Bun Fun Village was to both entertain and inform its visitors and as such, music, performances from popular artistes, and other on-stage activities, would be used to educate young adults and children on a number of issues.

The Honey Bun Fun Village will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day of the Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show, which will run from Saturday, August 5 to Monday, August 7.
