TWO trophies are at stake on today's holiday programme at Caymanas Park, including the $420,000 - $390,000 claiming race for the Emancipation Day Trophy over 1300 metres.
The Emancipation Day 10-race programme, which commences at 1:00 p.m., also features the Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association of Jamaica Trophy (TOBA), a restricted allowance II event (non winners of two) over 1400 metres for native bred three-year-olds.
For the TOBA Trophy, the conditions are so overwhelmingly in favour of MYLEGACY that it will take a brave punter to oppose the chestnut filly from the stables of 14-time champion trainer, Philip Feanny.
Nods of approval
MYLEGACY ran a decent race to finish third to SWING BY in the mile-and-quarter Jamaica Oaks on April 22, but the performance that gained her nods of approval was her third place finish to RANSOM MAN in the June 3 Digicel Jamaica Derby.
The Alisios-Hya offspring led at a fast clip for almost 2000 metres before giving way to RANSOM MAN at the final bend. In the end she kept on to finish 11 lengths third, having the then favourite ALLIEDFORCE behind her in fourth that day.
Significantly, ALLIEDFORCE came back to beat RANSOM MAN in the July 1 Jamaica St. Leger over 2000 metres, a race in which MYLEGACY ran below expectations to finish fifth.
With the competition far less imposing today, MYLEGACY (working well) will not be easily denied.
Back in action with only 52kg and in-form jockey, Oneil Mullings aboard, MYLEGACY looks hard to oppose in non-winners of two.
She has the pace to dictate the fractions or come from behind if the situation demands and although she can expect worth-while opposition from OLE KING COLE, JCD SLEW and especially the free-running AITCHEMES-BEAGLE under title-chasing jockey Charles Hussey, MY-LEGACY looks the right choice in the 10-strong field.
Recent winner, INSATIABLE and SIR KHAN should fight out the finish of the Emancipation Day Trophy race to be contested by eight starters.
Powering home
INSATIABLE bounced back to winning ways in fine style when last raced on July 8, powering home by 2-3/4 lengths from TOTAL MOTION over 1200 metres with Hussey aboard.
Although asked to carry top weight of 57.0kg on this occa-
sion, the Percy Hussey-trained INSATIABLE could well have the beating of high claiming and ought to be followed. If he is beaten, SIR KHAN, with champion jockey, Brian Harding astride, has the best credentials to do so after finishing second to NATURAL SELECTOR in a fast-run 1600-metre race on July 22.
Other firm fancies on the card are OUT OF THE BLUE in the third race, STATE PRINCE in the 4th, CELEBRATION TIME over THAT'STHELAW in the 6th and the well-advanced debutante SABER JET over MISS SLOOKIE in the closing straight five race for maiden three-year-olds.
