Binnie
Chris Binnie continued his dominance of regional squash at the junior level, when he easily got by Trinidad and Tobago's Josh Pinard in the finals of the Lucozade Sports Caribbean Junior Squash Championships at Liguanea Club on Saturday night.
Binnie, making his debut at the Under 19 level, swept by the Trinidadian 9/3 in the first game and won the second 9/7 before closing out the last set 9/2 to lift the crown.
Binnie had also been Caribbean champion at the Under 17 level for the last two years. Binnie's compatriot Dane Schwier had to settle for sixth place as he went down 10/9, 9/7, 1/9, 9/0 to Shane Slater of the OECS.
Brooke Burrowes, the only other Jamaican in a straight final, also failed to shine as she went down 9/2, 9/0, 9/2 to Guyana's Keisha Jeffrey in the girls under 15 final.
Boys' under 15 play
In boys' under 15 play, Jordan Schwier of Jamaica finished seventh place by battling his way past Deje Dias of Guyana 5/9, 3/9, 9/2, 9/2, 9/4.
Bruce Burrowes wrapped up a third-place spot in Boys' under 17 play when he turned back, Bajan Nkosi Ross 9/3, 9/0, 9/0. However, in girls under 17, Jamaica's Kristine Bell had to settle for fourth place as she went down to Trinidad and Tobago's Amy Gillezeau 9/6, 9/1, 5/9, 9/3.
Ashante Smith of Jamaica grabbed third place in the boys' under 13 division when he got by Nku Patrick of Trinidad and Tobago 9/7, 10/8, 9/4. Tracy Binnie also had some measure of success when she turned back Chantelle Fernandes of Guyana 9/4, 9/3, 9/5 for the girls, under 19 Plate Final.
The competition will continue until Wednesday with play in the team events. In yesterday's early games, the Jamaica women's team turned back the OECS 5-0, while the Guyana men's team nipped Barbados 3-2.
