Melbourne take charge of Group D

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Melbourne took over sole leadership of Group D in the Capital and Credit All-island limited-overs cricket competition after beating Kensington by four wickets at Melbourne Oval yesterday.

The Kangaroos now lead the group with eight points from two matches, ahead of Kensington (five), who have played one match more, St. Mary (five), St. James (four) and Kingston & St. Andrew (one).

Kensington, who entered the match as the leaders, batted first and fell for 183 in 48.5 overs.

Damion Foster, 35, David Bernard Jr., 25, Ranville Brown, 23, and Maurice Kepple, 22, were the top scorers against Nikita Miller, who bowled impressively to end with 4-27 from nine overs. Damion Jacobs supported well with 2-36.

In reply, Melbourne secured victory at 185-6 in 42.3 overs.

Opener Damion Jacobs led the way with an attractive 60. Llewellyn Meggs, 38 not out, and Yanick Elliott, 22, also chipped in with useful scores. Dennis Bulli took 3-40.

ST. MARY WIN

At Maxfield Park: St. Mary defeated Kingston and St. Andrew by eight runs to secure their first win of the season.

SCORES: St. Mary 192 all out from 45 overs (Maurice Clarke 38; Elvis Watson 3-43, Jason Haughton 3-35). Kingston & St. Andrew 184 all out in 47 overs (Sidue Hunter 48; Tyson Gordon 3-18, Claudius Thompson 3-29).

At Chedwin Park: Danza Hyatt's all-round effort guided St. Catherine to a nail-biting, one-wicket win over Kingston Tigers. The win pushed St. Catherine CC further in the lead with 12 points.

SCORES: Kingston 141 all out in 43.3 (Domaine Wilson 32; David Morgan 3-12, Dean Morgan 2-17, Danza Hyatt 2-27). St. Catherine 145-9 in 33.5 (Hyatt 65; Kerry Scott 4-30, Nehemiah Perry 3-28).

At Elgin Town: St. Elizabeth beat Hanover by four wickets to secure their first win in Group B.

SCORES: Hanover 127 all out in 30.3 overs (Omar Campbell 30; Alton Beckford 4-30, Ainsley Goss 2-21, Wayne Simpson 2-23). St. Elizabeth 131-6 off 31 (Tareque White 45 not out; Clive Thomas 3-33).

At Collie Smith Drive: St. Catherine crushed Boys' Town by nine wickets.

SCORES: Boys' Town 66 in 22 overs (Colin Buchanan 7-13, Erron Downer 2-13). St. Catherine Parish 71-1 off 12 overs (Kirk Gordon 27 not out, Downer 29 not out).
