THE CRACK American sprinter QUIET STRENGTH turned in an awesome display at Caymanas Park yesterday to win the grade one feature for the She's On Wheels Trophy by 6 3/4 lengths.

Toting his now customary top weight of 60.5kg with leading all-time jockey Winston Griffiths riding for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny, QUIET STRENGTH was sent off a 3-5 favourite in the 1,100-metre race and duly justified the confidence in a field of six.

He was well away on the outside of the field but Griffiths kept him close up in second as the fleet-footed LIL' COUNTRY BOY (2-1) led at a fast clip under four-time champion Charles Hussey, followed by a gap to stable-companion CLOCK WORK (5-1) in third.

LIL' COUNTRY BOY passed the 600-metre marker with QUIET STRENGTH almost alongside, only to be brushed aside when the 4-y-o son of Pioneering went into overdrive early in the straight. QUIET STRENGTH flashed past the furlong pole some two lengths clear and romped home by a wide margin, Griffiths merely showing him the fanning right hand stick over the final 200 metres.

He covered the distance in the smart time of 1:04.2 behind splits of 22.0 and 45.0 for the half mile. This was his ninth win from his last 10 outings and his 10th from only 13 career starts.

QUIET STRENGTH is owned by Lakeland Farms Limited. The talented 4-y-o chestnut colt, who is out of the Taylor's Special mare Sarita Sarita, had previously won the valuable Digicel Irish Jamaican Stakes over 1300 metres on Derby Day, June 3.

Another American bred 4-y-o, CHADMAN also impressed in winning the 3-y-o and up overnight allowance race at 1600 metres in post-to-post fashion in the smart time of 1:38.4 under top weight of 57kg.

ISSUE BEYOND DOUBT

Ridden by Dane Nelson for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, CHADMAN made all from the number one post position. The bay gelding was chased by his highly-fancied stable companion DIGI N' JIGGY (2-1) with Hussey astride and also the 9-5 favourite HERECOMESFUDGIE with four-time champion Trevor Simpson aboard, but lengthened his strides on entering the straight to put the issue beyond doubt.

CHADMAN won by 3 3/4 lengths from the fast-finishing 5-2 chance TWEEDSIDE under champion jockey Brian Harding in a field of nine.

Surprisingly, Harding failed to ride a winner for the second consecutive raceday to be left stranded on 49 wins four ahead of Wesley Henry (who is off the island), followed by Simpson on 44 and Hussey, 43.

Simpson (Electro Smart, Manish), Paul Francis (Bunker Dust, Dust Rock) and Devon A. Thomas (Concorde, Informacy) shared the riding honours with two winners each, while Feanny saddled two in QUIET STRENGTH and ELECTRO SMART.
