Ethanol, the hope for the future
published: Sunday | July 23, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WITH THE price of petrol fluctuating rapidly, more to the sky level, one has to wonder if the next generation will be considering the 'old and cheaper days, that is, donkeys, carts (but most definitely not the foot) etc.'

However, thanks be to God, there's hope for the future. The use of ethanol to replace gasolene was brought to our attention. Ethanol will not only reduce air pollution, as it's environmentally friendly, but will indeed boost our economic status. True, none of this will happen overnight.

Government should invest more in these sugar factories as well as grain-growing industries to produce this 'ethanol' by ourselves. Of course, it will take a lot of research and capital to achieve this goal.

Let's face it, this venture is even cheaper than petrol. Let's reduce global warming and increase Jamaica's wealth!

I am, etc.,
