A safe future for the JPS

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM extremely concerned about the future of the Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd. (JPS) as the Government now contem-plates its kismet, due to the disclosure by Mirant Corporation that it plans to dispose of its 80 per cent share.
It is my view that the JPS has come a far way over the years to be where it is now but has
not lived up to the public's expectations, particularly as it relates to the frequency of power outages. I am not sure if the JPS is a viable entity in Jamaica, bearing in mind that the company suffers significant loss to illegal connections and the ingenious ways used by some legitimate customers to evade paying for the true cost of energy used.
SAVVY JAMAICAN INVESTORS
Notwithstanding, I recognise that there are a few savvy Jamaican investors who are capable of turning this entity into a profitable organisation that would deliver quality service to the Jamaican people. One such person that comes to mind is Mr. Michael Lee Chin. I think it will be in the country's interest if
the Government of Jamaica approached Mr. Chin to see if he would have an interest to invest in the JPS.
I am, etc.,
