THE EDITOR, Sir:
SO OFTEN I hear complaints about poor service experienced by frustrated customers at both public service and private sector operations. There is one government service operation which receives minuses in abundance in the press and on the radio.
But here is some good news. All is not lost. Allow me to introduce you to the Tax Office, Brown's Town, St. Ann. Some years ago, I went there and when the cashier had completed my business, I heard my name called out and I was asked to go to a particular counter. My first reaction was: Is someone going to try to sell me a raffle ticket or maybe a ticket for an upcoming event. Suspicious? Yes. A surprise awaited me.
A pleasant member of staff informed me that senior citizens were being given gifts. I gratefully received mine and shared the good news with others. Of course the others wished that they too could be beneficiaries but I had received my gift on a Friday and the senior citizens' celebration ended that week.
IMPROVED APPEARANCE
As the years have rolled on, the appearance of the office has improved, so too has the comfort level. Paying taxes is not a task I look forward to, but when I head to Brown's Town to pay my taxes, instead of going with a heavy heart, I look forward to seeing and being with some of Jamaica's best.
Many of us have experienced and benefited from the efficiency, good work attitudes and pleasant demeanour of Mrs. Hudson, the leader, and her excellent team. I want to publicly say 'thank you'. You set an example for many of us to follow as you take service to a very high level.
I am, etc.,
