Gatlin
MONTE CARLO, Monaco (AP):
JUSTIN GATLIN'S record-equaling time for the 100 metres was ratified yesterday by the sport's world governing body.
The American sprinter was originally credited with breaking the world record in 9.76 seconds at the Qatar Grand Prix on May 12, but the time was later rounded up to 9.77 - matching the mark set by Jamaica's Asafa Powell in June 2005 in Athens, Greece.
After a review, Gatlin's time has now been officially approved by the International Association of Athletics Federations.
Powell tied the mark again Sunday when he ran 9.77 at the British Grand Prix in Gateshead, England.
The two sprinters are tentatively lined up to race against each other at the Crystal Palace meet in London on July 28.
