Elim win Basic Schools Champs

ELIM WON the sixth INSPORTS Basic School Athletics Championships which ended at the National Stadium yesterday.

They held off a strong challenge from RJR to secure the overall title with 171 points. RJR finished second with 152 while Silverstone ended a distant third on 88 points.

The Top 10 is completed by Alpha (71), Jahmona (68), Lalyce Gray (55), Ascot (51), Knollis (46), Joy Town Learning Centre (45) and Bethany (40).

Elim also won the boys' and girls' categories. They tallied 84 points to finish ahead of JRJ (70), Silverstone (67), Alpha (34) and Bethany (34) in the boys section, while their 87 points took care of RJR (82), Jahmona (49), Alpha (37) and Ascot (34) in the girls division.

Elim also raced away with the overall champion boy and girl titles. Kaheem Francis, who won the boys' Class Three 30m ( 6.4) and finished second in the 40m obstacle (10.5), won the boys' title with 16 points, while Class Two athlete, Laryne Brown, winner of the 60m (10.8) and 50m obstacle (12.8), took the girls honours with 18 points.

Sherika Jolly of Jahmona (16 points) and Knollis' Kenardo Russell (13 points) were the girls and boys Class One champions repetitively.

Laryne Brown of Elim (18 points) and Robert Bailey of Alvernia (12), along with Soleil Moving of RJR (15) and Elim's Kaheem Francis (16), took the girls and boys titles in Classes Two and Three respectively.

Chevonne Lewis of Harvest Temple (1.66m) beat Garian Gordon of Adastra Gardens (1.64) in the boys standing jump; Chris-Ann Wilmot of Joy Town Learning Centre ( 5.7) beat Aliyah Mills of Pentab (6.1) in the Class Three girls' 30m; David Collins of Alpha (10.4) beat Evermeek Vernon of Silverstone (11.0) in the boys Class Two 60m, while Jolly (13.4) took the girls' Class One 60m obstacle.

Romario Perry of Lalyce Gray (13.5) and Rakeem Knowles of Elim (11.9) took the boys 50m Classes One and Two obstacle races, Soleil Moving ( 11.4) won the Class Three girls obstacle and Tavia Collins of Alpha (11.4) won the 50m hurdles Open.

In the relays, RJR (24.2) won the girls 4x25 Class Three; Elim (22.8) took the boys' 4x25m Class Three; Joy Town (39.1) won the 4x50m Class Two girls and RJR ( 42.0) took the 4x60m Class One boys.

In the new event, Alpha (1:10.2) and Silverstone (1:09.3) took the girls' and boys' 4x100m, respectively.
