MADDIE COLEMAN blew into Oakdale a year ago and has been a whirlwind of activity ever since. Some would call what she does 'meddling'. But those who know Maddie, know that she's a troublemaker without malice.
"I honestly believe Maddie cares about her friends and family so wholeheartedly that she would go to extremes to protect them," Alexandra Chando, Maddie's portrayer on As the World Turns explained.
When Maddie came to town, she immediately delved into trying to mend her brother, Henry's shaky marriage to Katie. She even planned to stage her own fall down a flight of stairs so she could continue staying with her brother, but managed to accidentally cause Henry to fall instead. And, after breaking into a cottage to get to a computer where she could pose as Katie on the Internet, all of Maddie's machinations couldn't save her brother's marriage.
SCHEMING
In the process of all her scheming, she managed to meet a great guy in the form of Casey Hughes (Zach Roerig), and after initially disliking each other, they became an item. Now that she has found a guy she can be happy with, Alexandra would like to see them take their relationship further "and develop as a couple. We don't know too much about Maddie, like why does she have some of the quirks she has?"
With the character of Maddie Coleman being Alexandra's first big TV acting experience, undoubtedly she was a bit nervous when she first started. "One of my very first episodes, I had a scene with Dr. Bob (Hughes, played by Don Hastings), and he was so hysterical! He was really funny; it was a really good icebreaker. And on top of that, he's so talented."
COMMUNITY THEATRE
Having talent must be catching in Oakdale, because Alexandra has plenty to boot. Her mom took her to a production of Annie when she was a young girl. And "I just fell in love with the stage. I started acting classes and participated in community theatre. I love singing and dancing. I knew all my life I wanted to be an actress," she said.
A whim in the ninth grade helped to bring her closer to daytime television. She and a friend decided to just up and go to New York one day, and that's when Alexandra met and signed with an agent.
Oh, and about that singing and dancing: She sang at a benefit back in November, and it has even been mentioned that she should sing on the show. "But, I don't see that happening too soon, possibly later on in the show. It's kind of hard to work that into the story line."
For now, Alexandra is just happy working on a show where she is learning every day. "Even if I'm not in a scene with someone, and I'm just watching, I learn something from everyone."
