GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):
WEST INDIES batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan has been named to replace Shivnarine Chanderpaul as captain of Guyana to this summer's rich Stanford Twenty20 cricket tournament in Antigua.
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) says the decision to appoint Sarwan as captain was made at its monthly meeting.
The GCB stated in a release that Sarwan, the current West Indies vice-captain, is taking over from Chanderpaul, who has stated his support for the 25-year-old right-handed batsman to "ensure that Guyana does well at the inaugural tournament".
The GCB also appointed Carl Moore as manager of the team and Albert Smith as coach.
Sarwan, who turns 26 years old on June 23, is currently playing his 61st Test match. He averages 39.69 in Test cricket, 46.82 in One-Day International (ODI) matches and is ranked number two batsman in the world in ODIs behind Australian Adam Gilchrist.
