THE PUBLIC should know by month-end how a two-year-old ward of the state died at the Glenhope Place of Safety in St. Andrew, last month.
The three-member review committee probing the death is expected to submit its findings to the Ministry of Health within two weeks.
Dr. Colin Abel, head of the review committee, told The Gleaner yesterday that the investigations were going well.
The committee was given a deadline for this week by Health Minister Horace Dalley to submit its report. But Dr. Abel said yesterday that his three-member team, which includes Flo O'Connor, former head of the Jamaica Council for Human Rights; and Gail Hudson, director of human resource management and corporate services at the Health Ministry, will not meet its initial deadline.
He said the investigation was delayed because a team member was sick.
"The investigation is still in progress. It has been going very well. We hope at the end of the month to have a report ready," he said.
Two-year-old Joel Wong died in hospital after ingesting medication that was not prescribed for him. According to reports, a child took the tablets from the tray of an attendant who was dispen-sing medication to sick children and gave them to seven others, telling them they were sweets.
