Marcia Forbes' research findings for upcoming int'l conferences
published: Friday | May 26, 2006

FORBES

FROM A competitive review of abstracts submitted by academicians across the world, businesswoman and former head of Television Jamaica, Marcia Forbes, has been selected to present research findings at the upcoming annual conference of the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR).

The July conference will be hosted in Cairo, Egypt. Mrs. Forbes' presentation is being facilitated by the University of the West Indies through funding from the Postgraduate Department.

MEMBERS

Established in 1957, IAMCR draws its members from around the world. The theme for this year's conference, 'Knowledge Societies for All', is particularly pertinent to Jamaica at this time as policy changes liberalise and diversify the communication industry. Mrs. Forbes' conference paper titled, 'Cable Television and the Music Videos Jamaican Adolescents Watch', will present some findings from her Ph.D. research which involved a survey of 447 adolescents across five parishes and 21 schools.

Mrs. Forbes has also been selected to present her research findings at next week's conference of the Caribbean Studies Association (CSA), being hosted in Trinidad. The CSA serves as an independent professional organisation devoted to the promotion of Caribbean studies from a multidisciplinary, multicultural point of view.
