Doing it 'Wright' at Daydreams

FORGIVE AN all-too-easy pun, but there are wrong ways to do an all-white party, and then there is the Wright way.

'Daydreams - The Premium All-White Escape', held on Sunday, May 21, at the picturesque Solaris on Marbella Estate in St. Thomas, was Wright Image Entertainment's rendition of the classic all-white party. P.J. Wright and his team did it with style in St. Thomas, so eat your heart out, P. Diddy. Who needs the Hamptons anyway?

In the early afternoon as patrons began trickling in, Sparkles Disco sustained a tempered atmosphere with easy-going music, throwing in a little soca here and there. Liquor flowed from three main bars. Some grooved to songs like Allison Hinds' 2006 hit Roll it gal, others lounged in the plush white sofas under white tents artfully placed across the venue. The threat of rain hung overhead, but it seems as though the party-goers were in favour with the gods, as the sky remained a pretty clear blue all day.

By evening, Coppershot picked up the pace with some oldies dancehall and at about 5:30 p.m. a beautiful sunset gave a nice backdrop for the 'bumping and grinding' to Singing Sweet's cover of When I see you smile.

VARIED FARE

As expected the fare was a part of the all-inclusive package and the selections were varied, with choices spanning Chinese, Italian, Indian and Jamaican cuisine, but why was the lady only serving two shrimp per person? One patron was ready to get down and dirty if she wasn't dished more seafood, but maybe the server was actually doing her a favour. It sounds stingy, but maybe two shrimp is all you really need to delay alcohol absorption and still maintain a svelte appearance. White is a very unforgiving colour you know!

After nightfall, Jazzy T turned up the energy to a whole new level as he drew on the dancehall and hip-hop favourites that many had been waiting all day to hear. Superhype's Uptown Story was a clear favourite, probably because most could relate to the lyrics of the song, being uptown folks and all.

When the music stopped at about 10:30 p.m., even the hard-to-please should have been satisfied having attended a fine party that was notably free of the ankle-biters that flooded the Hawaiian Dreams installation held in December.

Among those who partied the Wright way on Sunday were: the Sibblies twins, Rain and Shanna; RETV mogul Kimani Robinson; Candace Buchanan of CVM TV and sister Nieka Johnson of Linkup Media; Jermaine Brown, Phillip Palmer and Jeremy Owen of Mad Circle Entertainment, promoting their signature event Osmosis; Carleene Samuels; Amelia 'Milk' Sewell; Ms. Jamaica Universe Cindy Wright; Kimberly Stiff; Alex Chin and wife Nasma, Christopher Telfer and Daniel Abbott, all of Absolute Entertainment; RETV's Naomi Cowan; Alex and Flex of TOK; Voicemail; Saint International model Joelle Lodenquai, her brother Ryan Lodenquai; Garth Walker and his new wife Kimisha; Dean Shepherd; Safiya Cooper; Gyete Ghartey; Dane Chin; Khari Robinson and Marvin Hall.
