FORMER NORTHERN Caribbean University (NCU) student, Dalvin Dwayne Hill, created history at Mercy College in New York City, to become the youngest person to graduate from that institution with a master's degree. The 22-year-old Jamaican, who is also a past student of Cornwall College, will receive a master's degree in Internet Business Systems.
A SERIES OF LIFELONG GOALS
Hill completed his graduate programme in February, at age 21. He will graduate with distinction on May 31. The event marks a series of lifelong goals as Dalvin intends to pursue a Ph.D. in either Criminal Justice or Human Resource Management.
Born in the small and close knit community of Inverness, in St. Ann, he is the youngest in a family of eight. His educational journey began at age two when he wept bitterly in an attempt to attend school with his brother. That was the conception of his determination to become a scholar.
At 18, he received an associate degree in Computer Science from NCU. He attained his bachelor's degree and graduated with summa cum laude from Monroe College, New York.
"I'm a first generation college graduate and it is imperative that I establish a path and positive impact on my siblings in an effort to motivate them. I did 18 credits per semester to complete my programme swiftly," Dalvin said when asked what has been his motivational factor. "I am grateful for the support from my mom, Rose Hill, and my dad, Morris Hill, in addition to my friends and family, but most importantly God. It has been a strenuous route with a multitude of sacrifices but the light always shines at the end of the tunnel."
