TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: Teacher held for cell porn
published: Friday | May 26, 2006

PORT-OF-SPAIN, (Trinidad Express):

A SECONDARY school teacher was detained by Marabella police Wednesday, and asked about the claim that he showed pornographic pictures on his cellphone to schoolgirls in a classroom.

He was challenged with the allegations made against him and asked to give a statement. Police were said to be building a case against the art teacher who could be charged with exposing lewd material to minors.

They are also investigating claims that the teacher beat a schoolboy who reported the alleged incident to the school's principal.

The incident happened last Friday but a formal report was made on Monday.

The Education Ministry is also investigating the incident and the teacher faces suspension and disciplinary action if evidence is found, the Express was told.

Another incident at a primary school in Belmont involving cellphone pornography is being investigated by police.

Several months ago a teacher from a Mayaro primary school was charged with showing cellphone images to children.

He is a defendant in a case being heard in the Mayaro Magistrates Court.
