Green Globe promoting environmentally friendly products
published: Friday | May 26, 2006

Susan Gordon, Staff Reporter

SIONA SHECHTER

GREEN GLOBE certified entities are being encouraged to use Green Globe certified entities, says president of Ahava Caribbean, Siona Shechter.

Green Globe certification is internationally recognised as a mark of environmental stewardship. Ms. Shechter said the Green Globe organisation is recommending that green globe certified products be used on green globe certified properties world wide beginning in June 2006.

Jamaica already has several Green Globe certified entities. The Runaway Bay HEART Academy, Round Hill Hotel and the parish of Portland are among those which have been benchmarked by Green Globe.

"It's a big issue for the image of the hotels, said Ms. Shechter, highlighting that the synergy would enhance the environmental footprint of certified entities.

She said the Ahava line of skin care products, which is also Green Globe21 certified, was being introduced in the Sandals chain of resorts.

Yoav Baron, Ambassador of Israel, based in the Dominican Republic said Ahava Caribbean stated that it would represent a good opportunity for Sandals and Ahava to collaborate under the Green Globe environmental standard.

"It's an outstanding statement for the guests," Ms. Shechter said. Noting that a significant number of the guests at Sandals are from the North Eastern part of the U.S.A. who are very familiar with the products, Mrs. Shechter explained that guests would be impressed with the use of the products.

Ahava was officially launched in Jamaica last June. The products are available at outlets in Jamaica but Mrs. Shechter wishes to make a special effort to have them in businesses which have Green Globe status.

Approximately 30 years on the international market, Ahava products are popular in the United States and Europe. The labs which manufacture the Ahava products are located on the shores of the Dead Sea in Israel.

She attributed the healing qualities of the products which are a combination of mud and 32 minerals extracts from the Dead Sea. The products are said to have healing qualities for every type of skin complication. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth measuring 410 m below sea level located at mouth of the River Jordan.
