Soca Warriors complete first overseas training camp
published: Sunday | May 21, 2006

MANCHESTER, England (CMC):

TRINIDAD AND Tobago's Soca Warriors concluded their first overseas training camp in De Vere Carden Park on Friday, as they continued their build-up for next month's World Cup in Germany.

The side, who arrived in Manchester one week ago after a 1-1 draw against Peru in Port-of-Spain, underwent a series of technical drills and fitness programmes, under head coach Leo Beenhakker.

After the players were taken through the customary double training sessions on Thursday, they were given the Friday evening off.

SECOND TRAINING CAMP

The team left Manchester early yesterday for Graz, Austria, where they will begin their second training camp that runs until June 2.

Important news out of the camp was that injured striker Cornell Glen made encouraging progress with his recovery in his race to be fit for the June 8 to July 8 World Cup.

"It feels better and the training has been useful for all of us. Even though I haven't been able to go into full training I think my part has also come off well and I hope I can be back for the real training before the three weeks," Glen said on Friday.

T&T are scheduled to play Austria's Wein Club in a practice game on Tuesday before taking on Wales in a friendly international in Graz next Saturday.

They will clash with Slovenia in another friendly international on May 31 before heading off to their final training camp in the Czech Republic where they will play another international friendly against the national team on June 3.

It will be their final game before flying to Germany for the World Cup which kicks off five days later.
