CARAIFA's Hall of Fame Banquet a blast
published: Sunday | May 21, 2006

Claudine Housen, Staff Reporter

Artiste Dwight Richards belts out an oldy but goody during the CARAIFA, Hall of Fame Banquet, in Montego Bay on Sunday.

WESTERN BUREAU:

PERHAPS IT is because they are in the life insurance business, but the members of the Caribbean Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (CARAIFA) sure know how to enjoy life.

Usually, when one receives an invitation that reads "banquet" images of beautifully dressed women aside handsome men come to mind, then comes the small talk over a meal and a guest speaker or a presentation of some kind before the evening draws to a close.

In the beginning, CARAIFA's third annual Hall of Fame Banquet at the Holiday Inn, in Montego Bay, last Sunday, started off in the same manner, the dresses were gorgeous, the shoes were an assortment of straps and shiny things and the men were handsomely dressed, as was expected.

So, how did this banquet, aside from recognising its first two female stalwarts in the insurance industry, differ from others? Simple the entertainment.

When Dwight Richards of Dwight Richards and Friends took the stage with songs such as: These Arms of Mine and I've Been Loving You, decorum took the back seat to youthful exuberance as patrons chanted and clapped along. They even managed to dance a bit, despite a lack of space, with the inductees, Mrs. Shirley Clarke of Barbados and Mrs. Marcelle Fenton of Jamaica, joining in on the fun.

A refreshing evening celebrating the work of two stalwarts, in the insurance industry CARAIFA's 3rd Annual Hall of Fame Banquet was a blast.
