Windies down but not out
published: Sunday | May 21, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN THE just-concluded Digicel one-day international series between the West Indies and Zimbabwe, the Caribbean men seem to be making a comeback in international cricket at the right time.

The joy of seeing them winning a series for the first time in the last two years is saying to me there is still hope for us in the upcoming World Cup in 2007 in the Caribbean.

Even though some may argue that it was against a young, inexperienced lower-ranked team, it showed that it is possible to still win a series. I hope as they embrace this new zeal for success, our beloved team will put their personal differences aside and begin to fuse their talents and operate as a team with one common goal and vision, as this victory will only last for a moment.

Yes, the team is young, not as experienced as former greats, but with a new focus, zeal and support from the fans, Cricket World Cup 2007 is ours for the taking.

Let's rally around the West Indies now more than ever as they face the ICC number three-ranked team, India. Let's send a message to the cricketing communities worldwide that the West Indies may be down but NOT OUT.

I am, etc.,

DAVID CAMPBELL,

St. Catherine,
