Windalco, JNBS score Business House wins

DEFENDING BUSINESS House table tennis champions Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) and Windalco scored season opening wins over Cable and Wireless and The Gleaner, respectively, last Thursday.

In the men's division, JNBS edged Cable and Wireless (C&W) 3-2 while Jamaica Urban Transit Corporation (JUTC) blanked Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) 3-0.

National champion Christopher Marsh, representing JNBS, crushed Robert Gabay 3-0 (11-4, 11-8, 11-9) and won by default over Franz Arnold to secure two wins for JNBS.

Patrick Blake earned a walk-over from Arnold to win the third match for JNBS.

CONSOLATION VICTORIES

Gabay, returned to stun Blake 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-5) and Brian Newman shocked Colin Williams 3-1 (7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 12-10), for C&W's two consolation victories.

In the other encounter, JUTC I blanked BoJ. Marlon Chin trounced Claude James 3-0 (13-11, 11-7, 11-9), Oneil White overpowered Donovan Pryce 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-4) and reigning 'C' champion Kenneth Thompson turned back Glenroy Williams 3-1 (11-5, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9).

Meanwhile, defending champions Windalco blanked hosts Gleaner Company 3-0 in a women's match.

Andrea Wadsworth eased past Allison Davis 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-1) and Elaine Jarrett stopped Jennifer Shaw 3-1 (11-3, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8) in the singles matches, before Wadsworth and Jarrett teamed up to whip Shaw and Davis 3-0 (11-7, 11-2, 11-2) in doubles, for Windalco's 3-0 win.

The league continues on Tuesday with C&W hosting JUTC II , Windalco will host JNBS, BoJ will be at home to The Gleaner and St. Ann Bauxite will welcome JUTC I, in four men's matches.
