Coote shoots Flames to victory
published: Friday | May 12, 2006

THIRTY-FIVE points and eight rebounds from shooting guard Adrian Coote saw the Portmore Flames end their regular season on a winning note with a 73-65 victory over the Runnin' Rebels in the KFC/bmobile National Basketball League at the National Stadium courts. However, now they must await the result of the Rebels and already relegated Rainbow Storms game tonight at 8:00 at the National Stadium, to see if they will take any further part in league basketball this season.

If the Rebels win, they will move to an 8-14 record and 30 points which would put them ahead of the Flames, who they are currently tied with on 28 points. The win would see the Rebels lock up the eighth and final quarter-final spot.

Kenardo Smith had 15 points and 10 rebounds for a Flames team that played its way back into the game from a 12-21 first-quarter deficit. Missing out on this year's play-offs would be a major disappointment for a Flames team that made it to last year's final four.

In last night's other game, the Blazing Panthers clipped the Arnett Gardens Rockers 62-61.

The win now sees the Panthers tied with the Link-Up All Stars for the sixth spot with a 10-12 record and 32 points. Despite the loss, the Rockers remain in fifth place at 11-11 and 33 points.

Dushane White had 16 points and five steals for the Panthers while Arnell Campbell had 14 points and nine rebounds and Marvin Campbell had 13 points and six rebounds for the Rockers.
