Jamaica to hunt for win number two
published: Wednesday | May 10, 2006

JAMAICA AND St. Kitts and Nevis will be hunting wins number two when they take on Antigua and Barbuda and St. Lucia respectively as the Caribbean Women's Gold Cup qualification continues at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex today.

Jamaica, fresh from their 5-0 demolition of St. Lucia, tackle Antigua and Barbuda at 7:00 p.m. after St. Kitts and Nevis meet St. Lucia at 5:00 p.m.

Admission to the complex will be $200.

Jamaica lead Group C with three points, the same as St. Kitts and Nevis, but have a superior goal difference. St. Kitts and Nevis, who edged Antigua and Barbuda 3-2, are second in the group from which only the group winners will advance.

If Jamaica and St. Kitts and Nevis win today, they could set up a grand finale on Friday.

Jamaica, based on their superior skills, should have little difficulty in brushing aside an Antigua team which lacks any real weapons.

Captain Venecia 'String Bean' Reid, the skilful Omolyn Davis, Shanique Mitchell, midfield general Kimmia Parker, Nicole Bell and Julie Fearon should have little difficulty in securing the Reggae Girlz' second win of the tournament.

Meanwhile, St. Kitts and Nevis should find it more difficult against a stubborn-looking St. Lucia outfit that conceded only two first-half goals against Jamaica before their legs went.

All in all, it should be a balanced encounter and the hard-kicking St. Lucians could upset the apple cart and effectively end St. Kitts and Nevis' hopes of winning the group.
