JLP must focus on present PM
published: Wednesday | May 10, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MR. BRUCE Golding earned high marks for his contribution to the recent Budget Debate. One would expect that Mr. Golding and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) would ride on the wave of accolades, spreading the message, of their vision of good governance for the country.

This is not to be, as Mr. Golding got lost on message, slipping back into the old slash-and-burn politics. We should not need to remind Mr. Golding and others in the JLP that Mr. Patterson (an easy target) is out of politics.

The focus of the JLP should be on the present Prime Minister, Mrs. Simpson Miller, and her government, holding her 'feet to the fire' - as the saying goes - to provide needed reform that will not give rise to impropriety.

This 'cass-cass' (re Mr. Patterson) that Mr. Golding is now involved in with a foreign company is a distraction from the message that needs to be sent. I am sure if the JLP starts asking hard questions it will enhance their position of forming the next government as this will show what kind of government the JLP will have.

I am, etc.,
