WESTERN BUREAU:
A WOMAN in the crowd screamed "Hollywood in MoBay," as reverberating deafening whistles heralded the arrival of the Glory to Gloriana cast at its Montego Bay premiere last Thursday night.
The woman was among
hundreds of 'Bay people' who turned out to pay tribute to their heroine Gloria 'Ms G.' Minto, the new queen of the second city, whose life was about to be played out on the big screen of the Palace Multiplex Cinema.
On the arm of leading men, Rodney Campbell and Bobby Smith, Mrs. Minto entered the large tent set up to receive her. The entrance was lined with a 60-foot long red carpet.
CHAMPAGNE FOUNTAIN
The entire tent was decorated with shimmering purple fabric and the surrounding area, including the palm trees, were illuminated by pepper lights, while a champagne fountain lent a
classic ceiling to one side.
Gloria Minto soared on cloud nine; pride, joy and humility glistened in her eyes, as she admired the handiwork of Montego Bay's best, Paulette Henry of Blooming Designs, and event manager Marline Stephenson Dalley.
Mrs. Minto needed no other stamp of approval, the people in her home town had embraced her wholeheartedly.
FAST FORWARD
The movie ended and the Montegonians exited the cinema, but not before saying their piece: "I'm extremely proud, this is our story, our grand occasion and only the beginning," said Shernette Annon, managing director of Shipping Services of Jamaica.
"The movie expresses so much of our lives, hardships, successes and struggles. Every Jamaican should try to see this film," said former Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke.
"What an excellent movie, she merits every bit of the glory," stated Godfrey Dyer, owner of the Wexford Court Hotel.
