THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT SEEMS there is no end in sight to the issue of PM Portia Simpson Miller's statement about being appointed by God. Not only am I becoming weary, but I am also feeling a tremendous sense of responsibility to point out a few things regarding this very sceptical society in which we live.
The Bible says in Romans 13:1 "Let every person be loyally subject to the governing (civil) authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist do so by God's appointment." Whether or not a leader admits it or is aware, he/she is appointed by God. That is what Christians like PM Simpson Miller, believe.
What is disturbing too, is how our youth have latched on to this 'secularist' mentality that says, the state and the church should not be mixed and have begun to openly lash out against godly principles. I challenge all such persons to examine for themselves the instances in scripture where the state and the church are under the same godly leader. King David and Joseph are two perfect examples.
We've tried many ways in the past which have been unsuccessful. Let's give PM Simpson Miller a chance to try a new way. It's time to lay the religious debates aside now and get the show on the road.
I am, etc.,
KADIA BURRELL
