KIDS Golf tourney launched
published: Sunday | April 16, 2006

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

THE SIXTH annual Keep Illiteracy Down Stream (K.I.D.S.) golf tournament will be looking to match the $3.5 million raised last year.

The launch of the golf tournament, which is the premier event of the K.I.D.S. charity programme, took place at the Hylton Hotel in New Kingston on Wednesday evening under the watchful eyes of hilarious comedian Owen 'Blacka' Ellis.

Ellis and his company Ellis International, announced at the press conference that they would be joining the K.I.D.S. charity programme this year.

On May 7, the group of comedians will host a stand-up show at the Hylton, where all the proceeds will go towards the development of the K.I.D.S. basic school.

Last year, the K.I.D.S. charity golf programme succeeded in renovating the K.I.D.S. basic school in May Pen, Clarendon, which was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan.

This year, renovations to the complex are scheduled to continue with the fencing of the school and the grilling of the newly-built computer laboratory.

The tournament will be held in its regular location at the Caymanas Golf Club on June 25.

The excess from the money earned from the tournament and the Ellis International concert, will be used for a charity that is yet to be named.

General manager of the Hylton Hotel, Frank Rosheuvel, thanked Ellis for coming on board and reminded the small gathering that giving to charities of this nature is probably the most important contribution to society that can be made.
