Easter carnival at Dover

Dover should be a hot spot on Easter Monday.

AFTER YESTERDAY'S last-minute preparation, some of Jamaica's leading circuit racing drivers are set to burn rubber tomorrow, at the Dover Raceway, St. Ann.

The Easter Carnival is expected to attract a bumper crowd and promises to be one of the most competitive events for the last seven-year period.

"We are expecting to have an exciting day of motor racing. Qualifying begins at 10:00 a.m., but the actual racing kicks off at about noon," says Peter Rae, president of Jamaica Racing Drivers Club (JRDC).

Rae, who will also be competing with his DHL RX7 Mazda in the GTS Class, is hungry for action and promises to give Peter 'Bull' Thompson a run for his money.

The man who could upset the apple cart in this event is Marck Carey, whose car is in superb form, Race meet director, Hilary Jardine, told Automotive.

According to the veteran, 'Bull' Thompson, he has nothing to introduce and will be just his same ole self.

Another big clash on the cards will be in the IP Class where the crowd favourites, Doug Gore, David Summerbell and Tedroy 'Teddy' Burton, will show off their skill.

READY TO TAKE BULL

Summerbell said two of his three cars are ready to take 'Bull' Thompson and Burton. The latter stressed that he will be going all out to defend the title he won in the IP Class last year.

Gore, who has done some serious work on his new-looking car, is also ready for the big showdown.

The drivers in the other classes are ready and anxious.

"Basically, we are rebuilding the car, using the same formula that we used last year. We are just doing a few small things that we think could make a big change at the race track," says Lenny Burke, who is the defending champion in the MP Class Two.

Burke adds: "A lot of people have been threatening that they are much better and faster this year, but I'm coming to defend my title."

Teyhren Ramdon, who is from east Kingston, made his debut last year and enjoyed every moment of the competition. He returns with his Mazda 323 to take on rivals such as Lloyd Lawrence and Rohan Clark in the IP 39 Class.

Clark, who is also from Kingston and will be driving a Nissan Pulsar, said he will be going all out to win.
